A shutter±photodiode combination for UV and soft X-ray beamlines

چکیده
In many experiments it is important to be able to shutter the beam. In our work this is to protect radiation-sensitive samples from unnecessary exposure, or for reading out a low-noise CCD detector. Shuttering is often performed using either the beamline's safety shutter or a valve near the experiment. Both of these devices tend to be relatively slow, and frequent use can shorten their lifetime. Most beamlines also require some form of intensity monitoring. A Samson photodiode (Samson, 1967), where the photocurrent from an aluminium surface is measured, is frequently used. Using the measurements by Day et al. (1981), this photocurrent can be converted to photon ̄ux for monochromatic radiation. Of course, the photodiode must intercept the beam, as our shutter does in its closed position.

Development of optical choppers for time-resolved measurements at soft X-ray synchrotron radiation beamlines
Two types of optical choppers for time-resolved measurements at synchrotron radiation soft X-ray beamlines have been developed. One type uses an air-spindle-type rotation mechanism with a two-stage differential pumping system to maintain the ultra-high vacuum of the X-ray beamline, and the other uses a magnetic bearing. Both can be installed at the soft X-ray beamlines at SPring-8, greatly impr...
متن کاملSilicon Photodiodes for Absolute Soft X-ray Radiometry
Absolute spectroscopic photocurrent calibration of detectors in the photon energy range of 50-6000 eV is performed at beamlines U3c and X8a of the National Synchrotron Light Source at Brookhaven National Laboratory. These beamlines are specifically designed to provide high flux over a wide energy range, with particular attention paid to harmonic purity of the monochromatic beam. Examples of opt...
متن کاملComparison of the current of UV ray radiation on PIN Silicon photodiode and Gallium Arsenide
The high-energy UV ray radiation on PIN Silicon photodiodes reduces the optimal parameters of these photodiodes. In this paper, by representing a model, we compare the effect of UV dose on the bright current in these two types of photodiodes and confirm the analytic relationships in order to simulate a model with the help of the Silvaco- Atlas software. In this model, Silicon photodiodes and Ga...
متن کاملBGO readout with photodiodes as a soft gamma-ray detector at −30◦C
BGO is expected to be plausible devices for soft gamma-ray detectors, because of a high detection efficiency for soft gamma-rays. Here we report on the good performance of BGO readout with PIN-photodiode or avalanche photodiode as a soft gamma-ray detector. We confirmed that the signal output of BGO becomes comparable to that of GSO when it is readout with photodiodes due to better matching bet...
متن کاملPulse-resolved multi-photon X-ray detection at 31 MHz based on a quadrant avalanche photodiode
The technical realisation and the commissioning experiments of a high-speed X-ray detector based on a quadrant avalanche silicon photodiode and high-speed digitizers are described. The development is driven by the need for X-ray detectors dedicated to time-resolved diffraction and imaging experiments, ideally requiring pulse-resolved data processing at the synchrotron bunch repetition rate. By ...
